Community Work

Grassroots, community collaboration and enablement is at the centre of everything we do. We paused our public nursery opening last year to fuel the first twelve public stops of the Aylmer Butterflyway project, with the the help of Pollinate Aylmer. In less than a year, both of these, along with a growing list of community initiatives, have grown exponentially, and now form some of the founding pillars of our newly registered non-profit arm, Canopée Localeaf. Our sites now exist together and separately, side by side. Localeaf remains our family’s nursery, local seed orchard and wildlife laboratory, while Canopée encompasses our community initiatives.

We’ve come a long way in a year, and we are excited to continue our community work alongside our family nursery project. Officially operating as a social enterprise, we are committed to continuing our investment in our local community. Our plant sales will continue to help fund and support community initiatives like the Butterflyway Aylmer project, the Aylmer Seed Project, community urban re-forestation and tiny forests, school programs, workshops and free community engagement and learning opportunities.
